DIY in the home
We understand you may wish to carry out some DIY and minor home improvements and this is fine providing you let us know in advance.
We also ask that you exercise caution while carrying out even minor DIY and refer to the information on the asbestos page. If you are drilling and hammering to hang pictures for example, approach the task with caution to avoid hidden water/heating pipes and electrical cables.
As well as general DIY, you can carry out improvements to your home such as installing satellite dishes, replacement kitchens, bathrooms, wood flooring etc. However, you must request permission from us prior to starting any work. Each application is considered separately and permission is usually given, subject to any conditions that may be appropriate. For further information and conditions please see section six of the Tenant handbook: A guide to your home [pdf] 2MB
Write to us at Asset Management Department, Axiom House, Cottesmore Close, Netherton, Peterborough, PE3 9TP.
For certain types of improvement work you may be entitled to compensation when your tenancy ends. Any repayment is calculated on a set formula, which takes into account when the work was completed and how much it originally cost. The compensation will be subject to depreciation and will be deducted from any money owed to Axiom.
